It’s a long story involving Steve Jobs / Apple, and Adobe. But, without iPhone support and now Chrome defaulting to disabled, Flash is now being forced to step aside for HTML5 / Javascript. They don’t do a good job of explaining it on screen, at all, either, so most companies have transitioned from flash to HTML5 (not all – for example HBO GO uses Flash player for millions to watch Game of Thrones). Recently, as of around March 2017, Chrome has started disabling the use of the Flash plugin even though Flash is installed by default and Chrome does support it. Restart chrome and try again and you should be good to go!

If you have an older version of Chrome, you may need to click the option “Allow sites to run Flash” and click “Done”. Click the Flash settings from the list of Content Settings.

What is the resulting system information?Īgain, this is only a work-around and obviously doesn't fix the non-functioning Component Updater on your system.

After installation completes, launch Chrome and navigate to.

Follow on-screen prompts to install Flash Player.

Double-click the installer file to launch the installer.

Locate the downloaded file in your default downloads folder.

The file will be saved to your default downloads folder

Click the yellow 'Download Now' button in the bottom right.

Note the optional third party offers on the page.

In step 2 select 'FP 24 for Opera and Chromium - PPAPI'.

In step 1 select the option for your OS.

One possible work around is to install the Flash Player plugin, and see if Chrome will use that instead of the (non-existent) integrated Plugin. Since none of my suggestions have worked, I recommend contacting Google Chrome support. In the end, the Component Updater, used to download Flash Player, and other plugins on Chrome, is a Google technology and Adobe has no insight into it. It was just a suggestion as it's something that's been reported (with at least Symantic).
